Lyon To Hold Open Training Session At UNC Aug. 14

NEW YORK – The 2019 Women's International Champions Cup (WICC) presented by Budweiser announced today a unique fan experience to attend a training session leading up to the tournament. Four of the top women's soccer clubs from around the world will participate in the second rendition of the tournament from August 15 to 18 in Cary, N.C. at Sahlen's Stadium at WakeMed Soccer Park.
The University of North Carolina will host French powerhouse Olympique Lyonnais on August 14 at 4:30 p.m. at the UNC Soccer Stadium. The brand new facility opened earlier this year and is located on the former site of historic Fetzer Field, the home of Carolina women's soccer from 1979-2016.
Olympique Lyonnais boasts 13 FIFA Women's World Cup players, including former UNC standout and 2009 NCAA champion Lucy Bronze. Bronze, who was the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup Silver Ball winner, led her England side to the WWC semifinals. Wendie Renard (French National Team center back), Shanice Van de Sanden (Netherlands winger and WWC Finalist) and Ada Hegerberg, the first female Ballon d'Or winner, will also play for Olympique Lyonnais.
