#2 Tar Heels Open Spring Season With Saturday Doubleheader

CHAPEL HILL - No. 2 North Carolina opens up its women's tennis spring season by hosting a doubleheader this Saturday inside Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The Tar Heels welcome Elon at 11 a.m. and Charleston Southern at 4 p.m.

UNC, who is coming off the third NCAA Final Four appearance in school history last spring, boasts a senior laden squad that features No. 4 Sara Daavettila, No. 8 Alexa Graham and Makenna Jones, a three-time All-America selection with 86 career singles victories.
Junior Alle Sanford checks in at No. 36 in the Oracle/ITA singles rankings, while sophomore Cameron Morra ranks No. 2 in the country.
In doubles, Morra and Jones are ranked No. 5, while Daavettila and Graham are right behind their teammates at No. 6 in the nation. Sanford and freshman Anika Yarlagadda sit No. 50.
The Tar Heels return seven players from last year's team that finished the campaign ranked No. 3 in the nation. UNC boasted a 33-2 overall record and won its fourth-consecutive ACC Championship.
Elon is coming off a 13-12 season in 2019. The Phoenix reached the semifinals of the CAA Tournament, before bowing out to top seed William & Mary, 4-3. Head coach Elizabeth Anderson begins her 16th season at Elon and has sits on 212 career victories.
Charleston Southern is led by second-year head coach Anca Dumitrescu, a former Florida State tennis standout that graduated in 2014. The program posted an 8-11 mark in 2019.
