Another Strong Day In Las Vegas For Carolina Tennis

LAS VEGAS - Junior Alle Sanford and freshman Kacie Harvey both advanced to the semifinals of the singles draw, while Sanford and senior Makenna Jones did the same in doubles on Saturday at the 2020 Freeman Memorial Tennis Championship from the Fertitta Tennis Complex at UNLV.Â
No. 36 Sanford took down a player from Stanford for the second day in a row to reach the semis. On Saturday it was No. 49 Janice Shin who was the victim, 6-2, 6-2. Sanford's run came to an end against top seed and No. 7 Michaela Gordon, Stanford's best player, by a score of 6-0, 6-1.Â
Harvey also won in straight sets over Oklahoma State's Dariya Detkovskaya, 6-4, 6-0. Later in the day, Harvey had her seven-match win streak snapped against No. 29 Bunyami Thamchaiwat, another Cowgirl opponent who earned a 6-2, 6-2 win to reach the finals.
Gordon and Thamchaiwat will face off in Sunday's singles final.Â
In doubles, senior Makenna Jones and junior Alle Sanford disposed of Oklahoma State's Alana Wolfberg and Dariva Detkovskaya, 6-2, to advance to Sunday's semifinal match against another Cowgirl duo in top seed and No. 17 Lisa Marie Rioux and Ayumi Miyamoto.
