Hofstad, Carolina Cross Country Teams Earn USTFCCCA All-Academic Honors

New Orleans, La. - The University of North Carolina men's and women's cross country programs both earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-Academic Team honors, as announced by the organization Thursday. In addition to the team honors, senior Paige Hofstad was named to the USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual list.
Hofstad also received All-ACC Academic accolades for the 2019 cross country season on the same day, as announced by the Atlantic Coast Conference.
Hofstad, a senior from New Braunfels, Texas, is majoring in peace, war and defense. She was the top Tar Heel finisher in five of six races during the season, and finished fifth at the 2019 ACC Championship, ninth at Region and 48th at NCAA Championships. She's the first Tar Heel to earn All-ACC and All-Region honors and earn a spot at the NCAA Championship since 2014. Her finish at NCAA Championships was UNC's best individual finish since 2013.
In order to qualify for USTFCCCA All-Academic Individual distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.25 on a 4.0 scale and finish in the top-25 (or 10 percent) at the NCAA Regional Championships or as an All-American at the NCAA Championships. Teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period, for All-Academic distinction.
In total 191 men's and 237 women's teams earned USTFCCCA recognition in addition to 283 total individuals – 117 men and 166 women.
