• Tar Heels fall to 8-6 overall, 1-2 in the ACC
• Carolina is 4-3 at home (4-2 in the Smith Center) this season
• The 20-point deficit (47-27) was UNC's largest ever at the half in the Smith Center (previous was 18 against Duke on March 9, 2013...the Blue Devils led, 42-24).
• Carolina's 83 points are a season high (previous and only other time with 80 or more was 81 in a loss to Gonzaga).
• Carolina missed its first 15 shots from the floor. Garrison Brooks made UNC's first field goal with 6:50 to play in the first half. UNC's first six points were free throws (two each by Armando Bacot, Jeremiah Francis and Brooks). The field goal by Brooks made it 30-8.
• Tech shot 59.0 percent from the floor, the third team to shoot at least 50 percent against UNC this season (.593 by Gonzaga, .590 by Tech and .500 by Michigan, all losses).
• Tech's 96 points, 36 field goals and 11 steals are the most against UNC this season.
• Tech's 19 assists tie Wofford for the most against UNC this season.
• Tech's 58 points in the paint are 20 more than any other team scored in the paint this season (38 by Gonzaga).
• Tech's 21 points off turnovers equal the 21 scored by UCLA.
• Carolina shot 50 percent from the floor in the second half when it scored 56 points (in winning the half by seven).
• Carolina's 56 second-half points are nine more than UNC scored in any other half this season (47 in the second half vs. Gardner-Webb).
• It was the fourth time UNC has shot 50 percent or better in a half this season (all second halves).
• Carolina missed 18 shots in the first half (16 field goal attempts and two free throws) but did not score a second-chance point. The Tar Heels did score 19 second-chance points in the second half (UNC missed 22 shots in the second half).
• The 19 second-chance points were the most by UNC since it had 22 against Oregon.
Tar Heel Player Notes
• Garrison Brooks scored a career-high 35 points, most by a Tar Heel this season. His previous career highs were 20 against Wofford as a sophomore and this season vs. Alabama.
• The 35 points are the most by a Tar Heel in exactly four years since Brice Johnson scored 39 at Florida State on 1/4/2016.
• Brooks matched his career high with nine field goals (Wofford) and made a career-best 17 of 18 from the free throw line. He came into the game shooting 61.8 percent from the line for the season and had made six of his last 16 from the line.
• The 17 made free throws match the second most by a Tar Heel in the Smith Center. Tyler Zeller made 20 of 23 vs. Maryland in 2012 and Tyler Hansbrough made 17 of 19 in a double OT win over Clemson in 2008.
• The 17 free throws are the most by a Tar Heel this season and most since Zeller's 20 vs. Maryland on 2/29/2012.
• Brooks was 17 of 18 from the free throw line. That percentage of .944 is the second-best in UNC history for 18 or more attempts. The only better is York Larese's ACC record 21 for 21 against Duke on Dec. 29, 1959
• Brooks also had a career-best seven offensive rebounds (previous five several times).
• It was the second consecutive double-double for Brooks, the first time he has ever done that.
• Brandon Robinson had a career-high six assists (previous five vs. Wofford this season).
• Justin Pierce scored 11 points. It's the first time as a Tar Heel he has scored in double figures in consecutive games (14 vs. Yale).
