Ashley Myles Joins Tar Heel Rowing Staff
October 14, 2020 | Women's Rowing
CHAPEL HILL Â -- Three-time conference champion, Ashley Myles joins the North Carolina Rowing staff as volunteer assistant coach for the fall semester.
Â
"We are excited to have Ashley join our coaching staff!" interim co-head rowing coach Thomas Revelle said. "Due to enhanced safety protocols around COVID-19, we have been practicing in small boats (primarily pairs, doubles, and singles) this fall. This means we have more boats on the water at one time during any given practice. Having an additional coach on staff will greatly enhance our ability to spend time observing each boat. In addition to the help Ashley will bring to our water practices, she will also offer a fresh perspective and new ideas. She is personable and passionate about rowing, and I see her as someone our student-athletes will quickly connect with and learn from."
Â
"I'm looking forward to working more with Ashley this semester," interim co-head rowing coach Emilie Gross said. "She's helped the team immensely at practice and is eager to learn about the Division I rowing system. She has already started to fit flawlessly with the new system we have in place. I'm so glad Ashley was able to reach out and we were able to find a place for her within the Carolina Rowing family."
Â
A Level II USRowing certified coach, Myles comes to Carolina from Washington College where she served as assistant rowing coach for her alma mater. Myles oversaw recruiting, the fall novice program and assisted in coaching technique and physical development of Shorewomen rowers. Myles coordinated team travel and served as a mentor for the 2019 Snell-Shillingford Symposium for women in leadership.
Â
"I am excited to have the opportunity to work with Carolina Rowing this fall," Myles said. "I am grateful for the opportunity to learn from Thomas and Emilie."
Â
Prior to Washington College, Myles spent three years at Franklin and Marshall College in Lancaster, Penn. as the Diplomats' assistant rowing coach. She was responsible for developing team culture and a supplemental training program for mental toughness. During the same time period, Myles was the rowing technician and event coordinator for Shimano American Corporation in Irvine, Calif.
Â
While a student-athlete at Washington College in Chestertown, Md., Myles was a four-year member of the Shorewomen's first varsity eight while a student at Washington College, winning three Mid-Atlantic Rowing Conference (MARC) Championships and rowing at three NCAA Division III Championships. Myles earned a degree in Business Management from Washington College in May 2015.
