Neglia Leads The Way To Victory For UNC Women

KERNERSVILLE, N.C. – For the second time in her three-race collegiate career, freshman Sasha Neglia led the North Carolina women's cross country team to victory on Friday, finishing first over the 6K course against NC State and host Wake Forest at Ivey Redmon Park. The UNC men, led by freshman Patrick Anderson's third-place finish, finished a close second to the Demon Deacons.

Neglia's time of 21:07.6 led five Tar Heels in the top seven of the women's race. Senior Paige Hofstad was fourth (21:25.17), freshman Kelsey Harrington fifth (21:28.56), freshman Taryn Parks sixth (21:30.36) and senior Emmeline Fisher just behind in seventh (21:33.50).

UNC finished with 19 points, NC State 51 and Wake Forest 54.

In the men's 8K race, Anderson crossed in 24:49.71 to lead a Tar Heel trio. Right behind him in fourth place was freshman Will Coogan (24:50.37). Junior John Tatter was just behind in 24:50.81 for fifth.

The host Demon Deacons finished with 30 points, just edging UNC, which had 31. NC State was third with 72.

Next up for UNC is the Atlantic Coast Conference Championships on Oct. 30 in Cary, N.C.
