Smir Earns Weekly Honor From United Soccer Coaches

CHAPEL HILL—Alec Smir was honored as the United Soccer Coaches Player of the Week for his performance last week, the association announced on Tuesday.
Smir (Greensboro, N.C.) helped the Tar Heels get their season off on the right foot, posting a shutout in a 2-0 season-opening win at Duke last weekend. It was his 10th career shutout and his eighth in his last 19 starts.
Earlier this week, Smir won Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors for his strong effort against the Blue Devils.
The Tar Heels will return to the field on Friday evening at 6 p.m. against Clemson at Dorrance Field in Chapel Hill.
