Carolina Notes
• The loss drops UNC to 5-4 overall and 0-2 in the ACC.
• This is the sixth time UNC has begun ACC play with two losses (also in 1980, 1997, 2009, 2013 and 2014).
• This was the first time this season UNC did not trail in the opening half.
• Carolina's six-point halftime lead (35-29) was its largest since seven-point leads in the first two games of the season vs. Charleston and UNLV.
• It was the fourth time in nine games UNC led at the half.
• This was the first change in the starting lineup this season. Last season, UNC used 10 different starting lineups, most in the Roy Williams era at UNC.
• This was the first non-start for Garrison Brooks (other than Senior Night last year vs. Wake Forest) since the final game of his freshman season in 2017-18.
• Freshmen Day'Ron Sharpe and Kerwin Walton made their first career starts.
• Senior Andrew Platek made his 10th career start. He started nine consecutive times last January-February (from Clemson on 1/11/20 through Wake Forest on 2/11/20).
• This is the first time since 2007 UNC has started three freshmen. On March 25, 2007, Carolina started Wayne Ellington, Ty Lawson and Brandan Wright against Georgetown in the NCAA East Regional final at the Meadowlands in New Jersey.
• This was the first time this season five different Tar Heels made three-pointers (previous was four players vs. Charleston, UNLV and Iowa).Â
• Carolina made a season-high eight three-pointers. UNC came into the game averaging 3.9 made threes per game.
• Carolina was 7 for 7 from the free throw line in the first half, but was 2 for 7 in the second.
• Georgia Tech shot 61.5 percent from the floor in the second half when it out-scored UNC 43-32. That was the highest percentage in a half by an opponent this season (.528 in the first half by NC State).
• Tech shot 52.9 percent for the game, the first opponent to shoot 50 percent against UNC this season.
• Tech had 13 assists on 16 second-half field goals.
• Carolina committed 18 turnovers for the second game in a row. The Yellow Jackets out-scored UNC, 19-10, in points off turnovers.
• Carolina has turned the ball over 18 or more times in five of the first nine games (2-3 in those five games).
• This was the first game no Tar Heel freshman scored in double figures.
• The opponents have made 44 three-pointers in UNC's four losses this season.
