CHAPEL HILL – Coming off Saturday's season-opening win over James Madison, North Carolina goalkeeper Taylor Moreno has been named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Tuesday.

Moreno, a redshirt junior, was stellar in UNC's 15-7 win over the 17th-ranked Dukes, making 12 saves and allowing just three goals while facing 15 shots on goal. She also gathered a ground ball and caused a turnover in 43 minutes, 34 seconds of playing time. Through Sunday's games, she ranked first in the NCAA in save percentage (.800) and second in goals-against average (4.13).

With Saturday's effort, the Huntington, N.Y., native has logged double-digit saves in 17 of her 38 career games, including each of the last four, dating back to last season.

Moreno and the Tar Heels will return to action Friday night at High Point. They'll then host host their home opener against Davidson on Sunday at Dorrance Field.
