February 25, 2020 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL – Coming off Saturday's win over Maryland, North Carolina junior midfielder Scottie Rose Growney was named the IWLCA Division I and Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday.
Growney, from Berwyn, Pa., scored a career-high six goals in UNC's 19-6 victory over the then-No. 3 Terrapins. She also recorded a ground ball and a draw control. Her six goals were the most scored by a Tar Heel against Maryland since Erin McGinnis (1996-99) had six on April 24, 1999. Behind Growney, Carolina scored its most goals ever and registered its its largest margin of victory ever against the Terrapins.
Through four games this season, Growney has scored 13 goals, tied for the seventh most in the ACC and 26th most nationally. Her four free-position goals are tied for the third most in the league and 24th nationally. Over Growney's last seven games, dating back to last season, she's scored 23 goals.
Growney and the Tar Heels will return to action Saturday, when they'll travel to Charlottesville, Va., for their ACC opener against No. 7 Virginia. The opening draw is scheduled for 12 p.m.
