Reed to Join Tar Heels in 2020

CHAPEL HILL – North Carolina volleyball is pleased to announce the addition of incoming freshman, the Virginia State Gatorade Player of the Year, Sydney Reed, to the 2020 squad.

"We're excited to have Sydney Reed as a member of our incoming class," head coach Joe Sagula said. "Sydney is a high-level athlete who brings a lot of success with her into our program. She is a leader and competitor that we know will push everyone around her. She comes from outstanding high school and club programs that have prepared her at an elite level."

A four-year starter at Flint Hill High School, Reed is an outside hitter/libero for the Huskies under coaches Carrol and Dave Denure. The 2019-20 Virginia State Gatorade Player of the Year is a four-time ISL all-conference first-team selection. Reed is a Prep Volleyball High School All-American and a Senior National Player of the Year Finalist. The 2019-20 All-Met Player of the Year earned All-Met honors each of her four seasons: second-team freshmen all-met, second-team all-met as a sophomore, first-team all-Met as a junior and player of the year as senior. The 2019-20 VISAA State Player of the Year is also a three-time first-team all-state selection. Reed earned Flint Hill MVP honors and was named to the all-tournament team at the Flint Hill Invite. On the club circuit, Reed also played for Metro Volleyball Club of DC for coaches Silvia Johnson and Patrice Arrington. The outside hitter/libero was named the 2019-20 Pigskin Club Volleyball Player of the Year and the Best Digger at the Capitol Hill Classic in the 18 Open Division. Reed also spend time with the USA National Training Team as a libero in Colorado Springs, Colorado.

A Glenelg, Maryland native, Reed is the daughter of Melanie Reed and Earl "J" Reed, Jr., and the younger sister to Jordan Haskins. Father played football at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. At Flint Hill HS, Reed is a member of the National French Honor Society, vice president of the Haiti Club and a Student-to-Student Forum Leader. Reed is also involved as a student ambassador, peer counselor and National Girls & Women in Sports Day.
