Daavettila, Morra Earn ITA Regional Awards

North Carolina women's tennis standouts Sara Daavettila and Cameron Morra have each received a regional award by the Intercollegiate Tennis Association.Â
Daavettila has been named the ITA Senior Player of the Year, while Morra earns the ITA Player to Watch award for the Carolina Region that encompasses the states of North and South Carolina.
Daavettila, who hails from Williamston, Michigan, becomes the sixth UNC tennis player to earn the senior award, joining Jenna Long (2007), Sanaz Marand (2010), Shinann Featherston (2012), Gina Suarez-Malaguti (2013) and Hayley Carter (2017).
Winner of the 2019 ITA Fall Singles National Championship, Daavettila was named an ITA All-America in both singles and doubles during the 2019-20 season. She finished the year ranked No. 5 in singles and No. 4 in doubles playing with Alexa Graham.
Morra, a native of Rockville, Maryland, is the seventh Tar Heel to bring home the player to watch award. The previous winners include Jenna Long (2006), Katrina Tsang (2007), Hayley Carter (2014), Jessie Aney (2017), Makenna Jones (2018) and Alexa Graham (2019).
Morra enjoyed a strong sophomore campaign that was highlighted by winning the ITA Carolina Regional singles championship and earning ITA All-America honors in singles. She finished the 2019-20 season ranked No. 6 in singles and No. 8 in doubles with Makenna Jones.
Both players are up for the national awards that will be announced next Monday, May 25th during a special virtual awards ceremony. The awards ceremony can be viewed on the ITA's Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube.
