Carolina Finishes Strong At VT Diving Invite

CHRISTIANBURG, Va. - North Carolina continued its good form on Wednesday on the platform in the final day of the Virginia Tech Diving Invitational from the Christiansburg Aquatic Center.
Carolina's women finished 1-2-3, while Connor Watling finished second with a score of 276.38 in the platform event.
Aranza Vazquez, who placed first in both the 1- and 3-meter events yesterday, did the same in the platform with a score of 277.95. Emily Grund finished second with a score of 252.23, while Taylor Hockenberry produced a personal record of 231.45, the ninth best score in program history, to place third.
On Tuesday, Anton Down-Jenkins and Alex Hart earned top honors in the 1- and 3-meters, respectively, in the men's competition.
Vazquez's score of 331.13 in the 1-meter was the second best in program history, trailing only Michole Timm's 336.53 back in 2015. In addition, her 357.68 score in the 3-meter is the third-best figure at Carolina.
Carolina also swept the top-3 places in the women's 1-meter with Grund and Paige Burrell checking in at second and third, while Burrell also finished second in the 3-meter.
Hart's efforts of 368.55 (1-meter) and 414.53 (3-meter) puts him in fifth place on the all-time school charts in both categories.
Carolina's swimming and diving programs visit ACC rival NC State on Friday.
