Seven Tar Heels Fill 2021 Men's ITA Preseason Rankings

CHAPEL HILL—Seven University of North Carolina men's tennis players have earned 2021 preseason rankings from the Intercollegiate Tennis Association, the ITA announced this week.
Four Tar Heels grabbed spots in the top 100 singles rankings to enter the season, including No. 2 William Blumberg, No. 41 Benjamin Sigouin, No. 55 Rinky Hijikata and No. 100 Josh Peck. Blumberg and Peck are both fifth-year seniors, Sigouin is a fourth-year senior and Hijikata is a sophomore.
Blumberg is the highest-ranked singles player in the Atlantic Coast Conference entering 2021.Â
On the doubles side, seniors Mac Kiger and Simon Soendergaard will begin the 2021 campaign ranked No. 5 nationally. Bliumberg and junior Brian Cernoch are right behind them at No. 6 nationally in the doubles rankings.
Kiger and Soendergaard were ranked fourth nationally when the 2020 season was cut short by the covid-19 pandemic and enter this season ranked fifth. They are the ACC's top-ranked doubles team entering 2021, followed immediately by Blumberg and Cernoch.
