Crawley, Tran Impress In Tar Heel Debuts At UNC Invite

CHAPEL HILL - In their collegiate debuts for the No. 1-ranked North Carolina women's tennis team, freshmen Fiona Crawley and Reilly Tran each won a singles and doubles match against No. 8 NC State on Friday in first-day action of the UNC Invitational inside Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Carolina won two of the three featured singles matches on the day that pitted nationally-ranked players on opposite sides of the court. No. 120 Crawley knocked off No. 38 Adriana Reami, 6-4, 7-5, for the first career singles win for the San Antonio, Texas, native.
Graduate student and No. 49 Makenna Jones notched her 100th career singles win with a convincing 6-4, 6-3, victory over No. 23 Alana Smith. Jones became the 18th player in program history to reach the century mark.
Tran also won in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2, over senior Lexi Keberle. In addition, Anika Yarlagadda cruised over Abigail Rencheli, 6-2, 6-2.
In doubles, No. 3 Alexa Graham and Sara Daavettila took down No. 16 Jaeda Daniel and Adriana Reami, 6-2. Crawley and Yarlagadda won 6-3 over Keberle and Rencheli, while Kacie Harvey and Tran won by an identical 6-3 victory over Keberle and Rencheli as well.
Carolina will host No. 10 Virginia on Saturday at 9 a.m., while the Wolfpack take on No. 7 Duke in Durham.
