Heels Hold First Scrimmage Of The Spring

Chapel Hill, NC --Â Â The North Carolina Tar Heels held their first scrimmage of the Spring on Friday afternoon at a sunny, but chilly, Boshamer Stadium. The Navy squad took a 7-2 win in the 7 1/2 inning game.
Angel Zarate scored from third as a man stole second for the first run of the game in the first inning. Justice Thompson then gave Navy a 4-0 lead in the second on a long three-run homer to left center.
Blue scored its first run on a Jack Riedel run-scoring single to left in the third. Navy responded with a run in the fourth when a Danny Serretti single drove in a run for a 5-1 lead.Â
Navy picked up two more runs in the fifth. A Tomas Frick sacrifice fly drove in a run before Jake Holtzapple drove in a run with a single down the right field line. Blue scored its final run in the seventh as a Hunter Stokely single drove in a run.
Navy was led by Tomas Frick, who was 2-4 with one RBI, and Johnny Castagnozzi's 2-4 effort at the plate. Justice Thomas's three-run homer was the only home run of the scrimmage. Frick and Max Reimer each had a double for Navy. Tyler Causey was was 1-3 with a double for Blue.
Max Alba and Max Carlson were the two starters. Connor Ollio, Michael Oh, Shawn Rapp, Caden O'Brien and Gage Gillian threw in relief.
Max Alba gave up one run in four innings pitched for Navy. Michael Oh gave up one run in 3.0 innings while Gage Gillian closed things out for Navy by striking out three of the four hitters he faced in the final inning.
Carolina's second scrimmage of the Spring will be held on Saturday afternoon.
