Carolina Notes
• This is the first time UNC won consecutive games by two points or less since beating Kentucky, 75-73, and Oregon, 77-76, in the 2017 NCAA Tournament.
• Andrew Platek hit the game-winning basket with 3.8 seconds to play. Three days ago, Leaky Black hit the go-ahead and winning basket with 9.1 seconds to play to beat Notre Dame, 66-65.
• Carolina made a season-high nine three-pointers. It was the third game in a row UNC either set or tied a season high in made threes (eight at Georgia Tech, eight vs. Notre Dame and nine tonight).
• UNC shot 45 percent from three-point range (9 of 20) and 29.3 percent from two-point range (12 of 41).
• It was a season-high 45 percent from three (previous high 40 percent at Iowa and Georgia Tech).
• UNC committed 20 turnovers. It was the first time UNC committed at least 20 turnovers and won a road game since committing 23 in a win at NC State on 1/8/2019.
• This is the second game in a row UNC shot less than 40 percent from the floor in a win (.344 for the game) and the second game in a row UNC won when shooting less than 40 percent in both halves.
Tar Heel Player Notes
• Leaky Black had career highs in field goals (6), three-pointers (4 for 4) and points (16).
• It was the third time this season and seventh time in his career he scored in double figures.
• Day'Ron Sharpe had a season-high 16 rebounds (seven offensive). That ties the second-most by a Tar Heel freshman. Armando Bacot had 16 against Virginia on 2/15/2020. Antawn Jamison holds the record (20). Harrision Barnes, Rasheed Wallace (twice) and James Worthy also had 16 as freshmen.
• Kerwin Walton made three three-pointers and one two-pointer. It was the fourth time in the last five games he made at least three 3FGs.
• Walton also tied his season high with four assists.
