GREENSBORO, N.C. – After helping Carolina to two wins over the weekend, freshman Mabrey Shaffmaster has been named the ACC Freshman Player of the Week, the conference office announced on Tuesday. It is the first weekly honor of Shaffmaster's career and the first of the season for the Tar Heels.
The freshman outside hitter started both matches for Carolina against Wake Forest and Virginia Tech, averaging 3.43 kills and 3.86 digs. Shaffmaster totaled a combined 24 kills and 27 digs while hitting .400, committing just four errors in seven sets.

"I'm so proud of this worthy recognition for Mabrey," head coach Joe Sagula said.
"She has performed at such a high level all season. As a starter from day one, she continues to work hard every day, raise her level and be a great teammate. I love how she competes and represents her team and Carolina volleyball."
