Cassie Sumfest has been named ACC Defensive Player of the Week

Sumfest Earns ACC Defensive Honors

North Carolina senior Cassie Sumfest has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Field Hockey Defensive Player of the Week, as announced on Tuesday afternoon by the league.
Sumfest, from Lewisburg, Pa., led a Tar Heel defense that shut out No. 15 Wake Forest 1-0 on the road in Winston-Salem on Friday. A midfielder, Sumfest displayed great positioning throughout the game, with outstanding transitions from offense to defense and back to spearhead the Tar Heel effort.
The shutout was the second of the season and first in ACC play for 10th-ranked Carolina, which is 9-5 overall and 3-1 in conference play.
The Tar Heels close out the home portion of their regular season on Friday, hosting No. 4 Louisville and ACC Offensive Player of the Week Aimee Plumb. Game time at Karen Shelton Stadium is 4 p.m.
Sumfest is one of seven Tar Heels who will be honored in Senior Day ceremonies prior to the start of the game.
