The North Carolina women's tennis program will take part in the ITA Carolina Regional Championships this week at the Wake Forest Tennis Center in Winston-Salem, N.C. The schedule begins with a qualifying round on Thursday, before the Main Draw of singles and doubles takes place Friday through Monday.Â
The Tar Heels are expected to have eight players compete in singles: No. 35 Fiona Crawley, Kacie Harvey, Sara McClure, No. 35 Cameron Morra, Alle Sanford, Carson Tanguilig, No. 78 Anika Yarlagadda and Lindsay Zink.Â
Carolina will have five doubles teams involved this week as well. The tandems include No. 15 Sanford and Reilly Tran, Crawley and Elizabeth Scotty, Morra and Tanguilig, Harvey and Yarlagadda and McClure and Zink.Â
The regional champions will earn invitations to compete at the 2021 ITA National Fall Championships being held Nov. 4-7 at the Barnes Tennis Center in San Diego, Calif.
Tran, ranked No. 88 nationally in singles, has already qualified for the fall championships by virtue of winning the Milwaukee Tennis Classic earlier this fall.
Live stats are not available, but streaming video will be available on the Wake Forest Outdoor Courts 1-6 and Indoor Courts 1-8.Â
Carolina has enjoyed unmatched success in this event capturing seven singles titles and seven doubles crowns since 2008. Cameron Morra won the singles championship with a 6-1, 6-4, victory over top seed Kelly Chen of Duke the last time the event was held in 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the event in 2020 was canceled.Â
