Two UNC Doubles Teams Make Semis At Men's ITA Regionals

CARY—Two doubles teams from the University of North Carolina advanced to the semifinal round of the ITA Carolina Regional on Sunday at the Cary Tennis Center.
The teams of seniors Brian Cernoch and Mac Kiger and sophomore Logan Zapp with freshman Casey Kania both won quarterfinal matches on Sunday afternoon to reach Monday's semifinals.
Cernoch and Kiger beat Garrett Johns and Andrew Dale of Duke in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, in a quarterfinal on Sunday. Later in the day, Kania and Zapp defeated Connor Thomson and Toby Samuel of South Carolina in a third-set tiebreaker, 6-3, 2-6, (10-8).
Both Tar Heel doubles teams will play their semifinal matches beginning at 10 a.m. on Monday.
In singles action on Sunday, Zapp and Chris Li lost their round of 16 matches to drop into the consolation bracket.
