Bubba Cunningham Announces Title Changes
October 28, 2021 | General
Carolina Director of Athletics sent the following note to staff earlier today ...
Â
Dear Tar Heels,
Â
As all of you know, the COVID-19 pandemic has propelled us to innovate in many ways. To better support our 28 sports and more than 800 students, many of our staff members have taken on new and additional responsibilities, and I've spent a lot of time considering our structure and possible modifications to that structure.
Â
As a first step, I'm pleased to share with you promotions and title changes throughout the department that better reflect duties that have evolved over time.
Â
Marielle vanGelder, our Senior Woman Administrator who also oversees our Compliance team, and Robbi Pickeral Evans, who leads our external units and strategic communications, were recently promoted to Senior Associate Directors of Athletics. Cricket Lane, who directs our Student-Athlete Development team, and Paul Pogge, who supervises Finley Golf Course and our risk management efforts, also have been named Senior Associate Directors of Athletics.
Â
In addition, Mike Perkins has been named Associate Director of Athletics for Business and Finance, and Nate Wood has been named Associate Director of Athletics for NCAA Compliance. The following people have been promoted to Assistant Directors of Athletics: Jaci Field (Facilities), Greg Gatz (Strength and Conditioning for Olympic Sports), Andrea Johnston (Business Intelligence and Data Analytics), Shelley Johnson (Leadership Academy), Tom Livers (IT) , Gary Paczesny (Creative Services and Athletics Communications) and Jeremy Sharpe (Football Communications and Branding).
Â
Dana Gelin (Athletics Communications) and Lauren George (GoHeels Productions) have been named Directors.
Â
We will continue to review titles as we continue to consider how to best support our broad-based program. Although we cannot currently modify salaries – the University's compensation freeze remains in effect – it's important that we find ways to reflect the transformation of roles within our department.
Â
Despite many challenges over the past 18 months, we have had incredible success – and we could not have done it without the support of all of our dedicated staff. Congratulations to those who have been promoted, and thank you to our entire staff for all you do for our student-athletes, teams and University. #TogetherWeWin
Â
Go Heels!
Â
Sincerely,
Bubba
