ATLANTA – Despite double-digit kills from both Nia Parker-Robinson and Mabrey Shaffmaster, the Carolina volleyball team fell to No. 14 Georgia Tech in straight sets on Friday night in O'Keefe Gym.
Even with 13 service errors, the Yellow Jackets (18-3, 9-2 ACC) overpowered the Heels with a .490 attacking clip, the highest attacking percentage any Carolina opponent has recorded this season. The Heels (17-5, 6-5 ACC), who hit .209 as a team, tallied just 32 kills in the match.
How it Happened (21-25, 18-25, 16-25)
After Georgia Tech took a 5-3 lead to open the match, Carolina fought back with a 7-0 run to go ahead 10-5. The Heels held onto the lead until late in the set, when, with Carolina up 20-18, the Yellow Jackets went on a 7-1 run to close out the set and take the 1-0 advantage. Shaffmaster had a match-best seven kills in the set.
Set two was dominated from beginning to end by Georgia Tech, with the Yellow Jackets leading comfortably 19-10 late in the set. A 8-5 run from Carolina wasn't enough to prevent the Yellow Jackets, who hit .533 in the frame, from going up two sets. Parker-Robinson had six of the nine Tar Heel kills.
