International Standouts From Norway and South Africa
Vilde Marie Nystrøm and Megan Streicher have signed National Letters of Intent to attend the University of North Carolina, women's golf head coach Aimee Neff announced today.
Â
Nystrøm and Streicher are Neff's first signees since she became the Tar Heels' head coach.
Â
Streicher is a native of Boland, South Africa. She won the 2021 South Africa Women's Amateur Stroke Play Championship, shooting 72-72-67, finished second in the 2021 South Africa Amateur Match Play Championship and third in the WGSA Team Championship.
Â
In 2020, she won the Bridge Fund Managers Junior Series event, tied for second in the Western Province Amateur and was fourth in the Ekhurleni Open.
Â
Streicher, whose home club is the Swellendam Golf Club in Boland, won the South Africa High School Championship and Boland Open in 2019. That year she also tied for third at the South Africa Match Play Amateur and the North West Women's Open and placed fourth in the WGSA Team Championship.
Â
"Megan has a maturity well beyond her years and should make an immediate impact on our program," says Neff. "She is a terrific student and relentless worker. She has an insatiable appetite for growth and improvement and is eager to compete. We can't wait to have her on campus next fall."
Â
Nystrøm is from Stavanger, Norway. She's ranked No. 140 in Europe, where she has won three tournaments this year.
Â
"Vilde is a tireless worker who has had a great deal of success in Europe," says Neff. "Her experience on the Norwegian National Team is invaluable as she has competed on big stages and performed well. We believe her experience, skill and work ethic will all contribute to her having an immediate impact on our program."
Â
Nystrøm won two Srixon Tour events and a Garmin Norgescup tournament in Norway this year and finished in the top five in five other starts this season. She tied for 26th in a Ladies European Tour event in Trelleborg, Sweden.
