Southerland's Bogey-Free Day Leads Women's Golf In Puerto Rico Classic
February 1, 2026 | Women's Golf
Reagan Southerland played two rounds of bogey-free golf and four Tar Heels are in the top 20 as North Carolina shot 21 under par Sunday in 36 holes of competition in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, in the Purdue Puerto Rico Classic.
Southerland, a junior from Atlanta, tied her career-low round with a 6-under 66 in the morning and followed that with a 5-under 67 in the second round. She is 11 under, one stroke behind Arkansas' Megan Schutte, who is 12-under 132.
Southerland's 66 tied the seventh-lowest round ever by a Tar Heel, and the 6-under score to par equaled the fourth-best ever. She carded a 5-under 66 in Vanderbilt's Mason Rudolph Championship back in the fall. Southerland and teammate Megan Streicher are the only Tar Heels ever with multiple rounds of 66 or better.
Carolina shot rounds of 12-under 276 and 9-under 279 for a total of 21-under-par 555. The Tar Heels enter the final round one stroke behind Arkansas, which shot 554.
The Tar Heels' opening round equaled the third-lowest round in school history.
LSU is third at 14 under, defending NCAA champion Northwestern is 11 under and Ole Miss is fifth at 10 under.
Southerland is one of four Tar Heels who are under par. Marie Prats-Rigual (71-69) is tied for 12th at 4-under 140, and Streicher (70-71) and Helen Yeung (69-72) are tied for 19th at 3-under 141.
