Matson Earns Fourth ACC Weekly Honor Of The Fall
November 2, 2021 | Field Hockey
For the fourth time this season, UNC's Erin Matson has been named Atlantic Coast Conference Offensive Player of the Week. The senior forward scored all three goals in Carolina's only game last week, a 3-2 overtime win at Virginia.
Â
The Tar Heels are 10-6 overall and head into this weekend's ACC Tournament as the No. 3 seed. They'll take on Wake Forest Thursday at 6 p.m. in Syracuse.
Â
Matson's hat trick, her second in as many games, pushed her career goals total to 103, the ACC's all-time record. The game at Virginia marked her return after missing the past three games with an injury.
Â
She leads the ACC this season in goals (21), assists (8) and points (50).
Â
Louisville's Julie Kouijzer was named the ACC Defensive Player of the Week, earning the honor for the third time this fall.
Â
Tuesday's ACC weekly honors are the final of the 2021 fall season, as league teams now turn their attention to the start of postseason and this weekend's ACC Field Hockey Championship hosted by Syracuse.
