Meet the Heels: #17 Carlie Myrtle
November 3, 2021 | Softball
The 2022 season is quickly approaching and it's time to get to know this year's Tar Heels, starting with our newcomers. Up first, Carlie Myrtle.
Â
Myrtle is a pitcher/utility from Fayetteville, N.C. She was a four-year letterwinner at Jack Britt High School, helping her team to the 2018 state championship title, while earning all-conference, all-county, all-region and all-state honors.
 Â
Why Carolina? When I came on my visits, the girls were all super welcoming and made it seem like I was already family. Plus, I already knew some of the girls because I played travel ball with them. Something just felt right in Chapel Hill.
When did you start playing softball? I started playing softball at the end of fifth grade. A travel softball team approached me and I joined them. I have been playing ever since.
Major:Â Peace, War and Defense
Favorite pre-game snack:Â An energy drink and a Clif bar
Go-to pump-up song:Â At the moment, it's "a m a r i" by J. Cole
Best walkup song:Â "No Flex Zone" by Rae Sremmurd or "Motley Crue" by Post Malone
Major: Peace, War, and Defense
Favorite activity outside of softball:Â Golf
Role model:Â Tobin HeathÂ
Favorite thing about being a Tar Heel:Â The student-athlete community makes it easy to make new friends outside of your sport. The support from the student-body for athletics is crazy and I absolutely love it.Â
What are you looking forward to most this season? Challenging myself to play to the best of my abilities for my team at the highest level of competition and making memories along the way
Dream Job:Â Working for the FBI or something with international security
Favorite place on campus: Loudermilk
Fun Fact:Â I can place all 197 countries on a map and I'm good at juggling
