CHAPEL HILL – The University of North Carolina women's soccer team will play host to South Carolina in the first round the NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship this weekend at Dorrance Field on Saturday, Nov. 13, at 2 p.m.
UNC, which has made the field each season since the tournament was initially held in 1982, earned an at-large bid and was tabbed as the No. 2 seed in its quadrant after compiling a 12-2-3 record.
Virginia earned the quadrant's No. 1 seed while Southern California and BYU were tabbed as the No. 3 and No. 4 seed, respectively.
South Carolina received an at-large bid out of the SEC after finishing its regular season with an 11-5-1 mark and tying for third place. The Gamecocks are making their ninth consecutive NCAA appearance.
UNC and UofSC are meeting for the fifth time overall and the third time in the NCAA Tournament. The all-time series is tied at 2-2 with each team winning one regular season game and one postseason contest. It'll be their first meeting since 2016.
In the previous 39 tournaments, Carolina has reached the second round of play all 39 times and has reached the third round of play 38 times. Since the tournament expanded to 64 teams in 2001, Carolina has a record of 20-0 in NCAA first round games.
The Tar Heels have advanced to the College Cup (national semifinals and finals) 30 times, including each of the last three, and claimed 21 NCAA titles. UNC has an all-time NCAA Tournament record of 139-16-4.
