Three Tar Heels Earn Postseason Accolades

CHAPEL HILL – Junior defender Maycee Bell was named Second Team All-America and First Team All-Atlantic Region by the United Soccer Coaches for the 2021 season.
Sophomore midfielder Sam Meza received second team all-region honors and senior goalkeeper Claudia Dickey earned third team accolades.
A native of Wichita, Kan., Bell earned First Team All-ACC honors this season, anchoring a defense that allowed only 13 goals in 18 games and helped the Tar Heels record seven shutouts. UNC allowed just 0.684 goals per game which ranked 23rd in the final NCAA statistics.
Bell played in 17 games – missing only the regular season finale at Miami due to injury – and logged 1,445 minutes (85.0 mpg). She scored two goals during the year including the Golden Goal in the overtime win against Stanford.
Meza (Balch Spring, Texas) started all 16 games which played and logged over 980 minutes (61.5 mpg). A second team all-conference performer, she scored a goal in wins over Arkansas and Miami, both game winners, while assisting on a goal in the tied versus Florida State.
Dickey (Charlotte, N.C.) ranked fourth in the ACC in goals against average (0.684) and earned third team all-conference honors. She posted seven shutouts which was fifth-most in the league.
Carolina finished the season 12-3-3 and ranked No. 14 in the final United Soccer Coaches poll.
