KANSAS CITY, Mo. – North Carolina junior defender Maycee Bell has been named United Soccer Coaches First-Team Scholar All-America according to an announcement from the organization Thursday.
A native of Wichita, Kan., Bell boasts a 3.87 grade point average as an exercise and sport science major. She is the sixth player in program history to receive first-team accolades and ninth player overall.
The Second-Team All-America and First-Team All-Atlantic Region performer anchored a defense that allowed only 13 goals in 18 games and helped the Tar Heels record seven shutouts. UNC allowed just 0.684 goals per game which ranked 23rd in the final NCAA statistics.
Bell played in 17 games – missing only the regular season finale at Miami due to injury – and logged 1,445 minutes (85.0 mpg). She scored two goals during the year including the Golden Goal in the overtime win against Stanford.
A three-time All-ACC selection, Bell has earned first-team honors each of the past two seasons after being named second-team all-conference and receiving the league's Freshman-of-the-Year award during her rookie season. She has started 55 of 56 career games played and logged nearly 4,700 minutes with five goals and two assists.
