CHAPEL HILL --- Two-time North Carolina All-ACC goalkeeper Claudia Dickey was selected by the OL Reign in the second round of the 2022 National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) Draft Saturday afternoon. A two-year starter who played in three College Cup semifinal games and two national championship matches, Dickey is the 20th Tar Heel taken in the NWSL Draft and first goalie.
Dickey is the fourth Tar Heel to be drafted by the franchise formerly known as Seattle Reign. She will play alongside former Tar Heel Amber Brooks, who enters 2022 in her final season of a three-year contact with the Reign.
A native of Charlotte, Dickey played in 81 games and made 55 starts in goal at Carolina, including each of her final 47 matches. She compiled a record of 52-8-5 with 28 solo shutouts and a career save percentage of 81.0. Dickey led the NCAA with 15 shutouts and ranked 12th in goals against average (0.450) in the 2020-21 campaign.
As a junior and senior, Dickey played every minute of all 38 matches and logged a combined 3,511 minutes. She recorded 58 saves during her final two seasons and finished her career with 149 saves, second-most in school history.
Dickey was a two-time United Soccer Coaches all-region performer, earning first-team honors as junior in 2020 while also receiving first-team All-ACC accolades.
