Heilmann Named ACC Co-Wrestler Of The Week

CHAPEL HILL – Tar Heel wrestler Joe Heilmann was named ACC Co-Wrestler of the Week on Tuesday afternoon following a win over a ranked opponent in UNC's 17-15 win over Appalachian State. He's the third UNC wrestler this season to bring home the award.
The redshirt-junior picked up an impressive win over No. 23 Codi Russell on Friday night at Appalachian State. It was tight throughout, but Heilmann used an escape late to earn the 4-3 upset over Russell. The win was his first ranked win since defeating No. 10 Louie Hayes of Virginia on Feb. 13, 2021. It was also only his second career win over a ranked opponent.
Heilmann currently sits at 9-3 overall and 2-1 in duals heading into the new year.
