Quoting The Coaches: Closing Out The Dual Meet Season
February 10, 2021 | Wrestling
CHAPEL HILL - No. 14 North Carolina is set to host its final dual meet of the season this Saturday when it welcomes Virginia to Carmichael Arena at 6:00 p.m. Following a strong outing in Pennsylvania last weekend – with wins against No. 15 Pittsburgh and No. 25 Lehigh – the Tar Heels compete in one more match before preparing for postseason competition.
Â
Below, we talked with the UNC Wrestling staff about the atmosphere in the wrestling room leading into a crucial time in the season.
Â
GoHeels: With one dual meet left in the season, talk about the state of the team and what you're most looking forward to as we approach the final stretch of the year.
Â
Coleman Scott, Head Coach: It's easy to be excited at this point of the year. It's been a unique year; nobody is going to argue that we've faced unique situations since we got back to campus. But, I'm proud of the way our guys have handled everything. I'm looking forward to see everyone step up and make the most of this opportunity. You have to be excited, bring high energy and high effort every day and appreciate where we're at.
Â
Tony Ramos, Associate Head Coach: With one meet left, I am really looking forward to finishing our year strong and seeing our team show who we really are at the ACC and NCAA Championships. We have finally got some consistency with the team being together and we are looking to peak at the right time. Â
Â
Jamill Kelly, Assistant Coach: With all of the uncertainty and adjustments that we've had to make due to COVID protocols this season, I'm just looking forward to continue to see our guys start to get into a groove and get better every week as they get to wrestle other opponents.
Â
Gary Wayne Harding, Assistant Coach: I think we have to stay dialed in and be ready for a tough team this weekend. The mindset is one match at a time, and right now our focus is on Virginia this Saturday night. As we push into the postseason, it's a time for us to fine tune areas individually and be excited for ACCs and NCAAs.
