Cernoch & Blumberg Pick Up ACC Weekly Honors

CHAPEL HILL—The University of North Carolina's Brian Cernoch and William Blumberg each earned weekly honors from the Atlantic Coast Conference on Tuesday.
Cernoch was named the ACC Men's Tennis Player of the Week and paired up with Blumberg for the Doubles Team of the Week after the Tar Heels won the 2021 ITA National Indoor Team Championship.
Cernoch was key in North Carolina's ITA title with wins over No. 4 Baylor (4-1), No. 7 Virginia (4-2) and No. 10 Tennessee (4-1). The junior form Rockville, Maryland, won three singles matches and two doubles matches on the weekend, highlighted by a 7-6 (3), 7-5 win over Baylor's 74th-ranked Nick Stachowiak that clinched the national title for the Tar Heels.
In doubles, Cernoch teamed up with Blumberg, a senior from Greenwich, Connecticut, to take down two pairs at the No. 1 position. They defeated Tennessee's pair of Pat Harper and Adam Walton, 6-4, and Virginia's duo of Carl Soderlund and William Woodall, 6-4.
