Aseguinolaza Leads UNC After Day One of Palmetto Intercollegiate

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – With nearly two rounds complete, Natalia Aseguinolaza led North Carolina in round one of the Palmetto Intercollegiate at Turtle Point Golf Course in Kiawah Island, S.C.
With play suspended due to darkness, College of Charleston, Indiana and UNC will complete the second round Monday morning at 8 a.m. The final round will tee off between 8:30-10:30 a.m. from the first and 10th holes. Following round one, Carolina was in eighth place, shooting 25-over-par 313. Eight teams completed round two before play was suspended.
Freshman Aseguinolaza finished two-over-par 75 in the first round. The freshman birdied the par-five, 454-yard fifth hole and tallied 13 pars.
Freshman Nicole Adam began the day strong with a birdie on the par-four, 341-yard first hole. Adam tallied a second birdie on the back nine and finished with nine pars to shoot five-over-par 77.
In her collegiate debut, Crista Izuzquiza followed suit with a pair of birdies in the first round, shooting seven-over-par. Although she got off to a rocky start on the front nine, Izuzquiza settled and finished with eight pars after the turn.
Sophomore Kayla Smith managed a birdie on the par-five, 477-yard 13th hole, but shot 10-over-par 82 in the first round.
Sophomore Krista Junkkari rounded out UNC's lineup with 10 pars, firing 14-over-par in round one.
Competing as an individual, junior Jennifer Zhou tallied two birdies to finish three-over-par 75 in the first round. Zhou carded 11 pars and birdied the par-five, 477-yard 13th hole.
With nearly two rounds complete at Turtle Point Golf Course, Wake Forest leads the Palmetto Intercollegiate with rounds of 299 and 288 to sit 11-over-par 587.
College of Charleston, Indiana and Carolina wrap up the second round Monday at 8 a.m. before continuing through to the final round at Turtle Point. Fans can follow live results on GolfStat.com.
