Heels Sit 4th At ACC Men's Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. - The North Carolina men's swimming team sits in fourth place after two days of action at the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship from Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Carolina placed seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay with an NCAA "B" cut time of 1:17.86. The quartet of Eli Can, Jack Messenger, Boyd Poelke and Tomas Sungalia produced the fastest swim of the year for the Tar Heels in the event.Â
Messenger finished 15th in the 50-yard freestyle sprint. His time of 19.64 was his fastest time of the year and an NCAA "B" cut.Â
Coan and Sungalia wound up 21st and 22nd, respectively, in the 50 free with their best times of the year at 19.81 and 19.84 - both also good for NCAA "B" cuts.Â
Patrick Hussey placed 22nd in the 500-yard freestyle. His prelims time of 4:22.53 was a personal best and an NCAA "B" cut.Â
Virginia Tech leads the team standings with 487 points. The top four includes Louisville (470), NC State (456) and North Carolina (372).
The third day of competition on Friday gets underway with prelims at 10 a.m. in the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast and 100 back. The finals begin at 6 p.m
