Blue Wins Monday's Five-Inning Scrimmage

Chapel Hill, NC --Â Â The Blue squad scored two runs in the bottom of the fifth and final inning to take a 6-4 win over Navy on Monday afternoon at Boshamer Stadium.
Dallas Tessar gave Navy a quick 1-0 lead in the top of the first with a lead-off home run to left. Blue responded with two runs in the bottom of the second. Jake Holtzapple drove in a run with a double to left before Eric Grintz drove in a run with a single to left.
Navy regained the lead in the top of the third as Tomas Frick ripped a three-run home run to right for a 4-2 lead. Blue came back with two runs in the bottom of the innng. Danny Serretti scored on an error, then Holtzapple drove in a run with a single to tie the score at 4-4.
Blue picked up the last two runs of the afternoon in the bottom of the fifth. Justice Thompson homered to left for his third home run in the last two scrimmages. Holtzapple followed with a run-scoring single to left for the final 6-4 score.
Jake Holtzapple led Blue at the plate by going 3-3 with three RBI and a double. Angel Zarate and Mac Horvath both went 2-3 for Blue. Tessar, Frick and Thompson each homered, with Danny Serretti and Holtzapple both hitting doubles.
Chris Joyner and Tanner Quick were the two starters. Gage Gillian, Caden O'Brien, Davis Palermo and Kyle Blendinger all threw in relief. Blendinger allowed no runs in his two innings of work with Gillian adding one scoreless inning.
The Heels' next scrimmage day is uncertain due to weather concerns.
