No. 1 Women's Tennis Too Much For Duke In 6-1 Triumph

CHAPEL HILL - No. 1 North Carolina women's tennis registered its sixth-straight win over its biggest rival on Friday, downing No. 9 Duke, 6-1, from the indoor courts at Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.Â
North Carolina improves to 17-0 (7-0 ACC) and increases its ACC-record winning streak to 35 matches. Duke falls to 10-3 and 5-2 in the league.Â
UNC notched the doubles point to grab the early 1-0 lead over the Blue Devils. Reilly Tran and Alle Sanford won their fifth-straight match with a 6-2 decision over Kelly Chen and Hannah Zhao on court three.Â
Court one's Sara Daavettila and Cameron Morra assured UNC the opening point with a 6-1 dominating performance over Meible Chi and Margaryta Bilokin.
Tran improved to 10-0 in singles play this spring with a 6-0, 6-0, win over Hannah Zhao on court six.Â
No. 49 Makenna Jones made it 3-0 with a convincing 6-1, 6-2, victory over No. 44 Margaryta Bilokin on court three, and No. 120 Fiona Crawley remained unbeaten this spring, improving to 17-0 with a 6-4, 6-2, victory over fifth-year senior Meible Chi, who is ranked No. 111 nationally.Â
Anika Yarlagadda also continued her torrid play with a 6-1, 6-4 , win on court five over No. 95 Karolina Berankova. Yarlaggada is 12-0 this spring.Â
No. 4 Sara Daavettila matched up with No. 8 Chloe Beck on court one. The Tar Heel All-America was in good form in posting a 6-3, 6-2, win, the 139th of her career.
Carolina is back in action next Friday at Virginia Tech, before hosting Notre Dame next Sunday at 11 a.m.
