Rowing's 1V4+ Earns First Win of Spring Season
March 27, 2021 | Women's Rowing
CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va.  – Highlighted by the 1V4+ earning its first win of the season, Carolina took on UCF for its second race of the season on Saturday afternoon at Virginia's South Fork Rivanna River Reservoir in Charlottesville, Va. Â
Â
"We're grateful for Virginia to host and allow us to come for a quick trip to race UCF today," interim co-head coach Emilie Gross said. "We are working on building a championship program and we took steps as a team today in that process. Congrats to the 1V4 for grinding out a great win. We've got to continue to be scrappy to raise our bar."
Â
Carolina's 1V4 picked up the Tar Heels first win of the season while UCF clinched the remaining races on Saturday afternoon.
Â
"We had a beautiful day for racing with warm weather and relatively flat water," interim co-head coach Thomas Revelle said. "We really appreciated UVA inviting us up to their event. We had some mixed success. The highlight of the day was our 1V4 winning against UCF. Our 2V8 and 2V4 followed closely behind in their respective races. The 2V8 had a great week of training with huge gains to prepare for this weekend and it showed on the course today. The 2V4 clicked heading into this weekend so I'm glad to see them go out and execute on the course. Across the board, each boat pushed themselves and continued to learn more about racing. We're still motivated to keep working hard and grinding and getting better. We have a few weeks to build for our next races."
Â
Beginning the day with the 3V8, sophomore coxswain Claire Traylor led senior Lily Brown, senior Juliana Micchia, freshman Becca Lewis, sophomore Tianna Van Cura, sophomore Hannah Davis, sophomore Julia Downes, freshman Molly Hilemn and senior Marion Miller to finish in 7:46.0.
Â
