Four Tar Heels Earn All-ACC Academic Honors

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Four Tar Heels have earned spots on the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic teams for cross country, announced Tuesday morning by the league. Senior Paige Hofstad and freshmen Kelsey Harrington and Sasha Neglia were named to the women's team, and freshman Will Coogan was named to the men's team.
Hofstad, from New Braunfels, Texas, earned All-America honors as she finished 29th at the NCAA Cross Country Championship. Her finish was the best for a Tar Heel since 2013. A double major in public policy and peace, war & defense, she also earned All-ACC honors for the second year in a row.
Neglia was the ACC Women's Cross Country Freshman of the Year and earned All-ACC honors after finishing sixth overall at the conference championship meet, where she was the top freshman finisher. A statistics and analytics major from Kingsport, Tenn., she was the ACC Women's Performer of the Week in the opening week of the season and was twice named ACC Women's Freshman of the Week. She placed 46th overall at NCAA Championships and was second among all freshmen in the field.
Harrington, a nutrition major from Bristol, Va., was 19th at the ACC Championship to earn all-conference honors as a freshman. She placed 61st at the NCAA Championship, fourth-highest among freshmen.
Coogan is a biology major from Exeter, N.H. As a freshman, he placed 38th at ACC Championships, second among the UNC men. He was the team's top finisher in two of the three regular-season meets and placed second among the UNC men in the third.
