April 13, 2021 | Women's Soccer
CHAPEL HILL – Behind four first-half goals and a brace from Brianna Pinto, No. 2 North Carolina (15-1) won 6-0 over Columbus State Tuesday evening.
It did not take long for the Tar Heels to find the back of the net on Dorrance Field against the Cougars, members of the Division II Peach Belt Conference.
North Carolina scored on a set piece in the fourth minute as Abby Allen found the back of the net for the second time in her career off of a corner kick from Paige Tolentino. Just four minutes later, Rachel Jones fired a shot outside of the box for a goal after trickling between the goalkeeper's legs.
Carolina added its third goal of the game in the 18th minute when Pinto netted her team-high 12th goal of the season.
In the 24th minute, Pinto found Talia Dellaperuta for her fifth score of the season. After collecting the ball from Pinto, Dellaperuta fired a left-footed goal into the bottom-right of the net to put the Tar Heels up four.
The first half finished with back-and-forth play with Carolina holding a 4-0 advantage at the break.
Isabel Cox gave Carolina a 5-0 lead in the 53rd minute after she finished a lay-off from Pinto in the right side of the box.
Pinto scored her eighth goal in her last five games in the 87th minute to give the Tar Heels a 6-0 advantage.
Carolina returns to action on Saturday against South Carolina at 1 p.m.
