April 5, 2021 | Women's Golf
CHAPEL HILL – Concluding the 2021 regular season, North Carolina women's golf travels to Virignia to compete in the Cavalier Match Play Tuesday and Wednesday at the 6,118-yard, par 71 Birdwood Golf Club in Charlottesville, Va.
"We've strugged some and yet, this is an extremely talented team," head coach Jan Mann said. "I want the team to believe in themselves and have confidence in their ability and how they've prepared. Just simply going in there with a sense of calmness and confidence and believing in themselves and their teammates.
Competing in match play is includes junior Jennifer Zhou, freshman Nicole Adam, freshman Natalia Aseguinolaza, freshman Crista Izuzquiza and sophomore Kayla Smith.
The field includes ACC opponents, Duke, Louisville, NC State, Virginia Tech and host Virginia. The Tar Heels are paired with Virginia Tech beginning Tueday at 9:45 a.m. Tuesday's second match will begin at 12:55 p.m. or 2:15 p.m.
"It'll be good to be back at my old stomping ground and Kristen's (Simpson) old stomping ground," Mann said. "I have such fond memories. Things are quite difference since I left, but I'm looking forward to seeing what they've done to the course and facilities. From everything I've heard it's great course."
Most recently at the Big Four Challenge at NC State, the Tar Heels fell to Wake Forest before defeating NC State in four of five matches.
Up next, Carolina competes in the ACC Tournament April 15-18 at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro, N.C.
