Tar Heels Complete Series Sweep Over No. 8 Louisville With 10-5 Win

With the sweep, the Tar Heels handed Louisville its second three-game ACC sweep since joining the league in 2015.
Carolina held Louisville to six runs over the three-game span, which was tied for the fewest number of runs scored for the Cardinals in an ACC series in program history.
The Tar Heel's patience was on full display in the first inning as Carolina drew two walks, which led to the first run of the game. After Angel Zarate hit a leadoff single to left field and Justice Thompson was hit by a pitch, Caleb Roberts and Dallas Tessar drew back-to-back walks to give Carolina a one-run advantage.
Mac Horvath drove in UNC's second run of the game with an RBI fielder's choice before Danny Serretti's sacrifice fly pushed the lead to 3-0.
Carolina extended its lead to 6-0 in the second inning after RBI singles from Justice Thompson and Mac Horvath and a wild pitch that allowed Colby Wilkerson to score. It was Thompson's first RBI since he collected two against Miami on April 23.
Louisville plated its first run of the ballgame in the fourth inning when Tyeler Hawkins doubled down the right-field line. An inning later, a sacrifice fly cut the lead to four.
UNC tacked on another run in the sixth inning when Zarate poked an RBI single to score Centracchio, who reached on a one-double double earlier in the inning.
A leadoff double in the eighth inning from Serretti was followed by an RBI single off of the bat of Tomas Frick, who gave Carolina a four-run advantage.
Mikey Madej gave Carolina a five-run lead later in the eighth inning with a sacrifice fly. A batter late, Thompson pushed the lead to 10-4, where the score would stand.
With the win, Carolina's clinched a spot in the 2021 ACC Championship in Charlotte, which is set for May 25-30.
Carolina is back on the diamond against UNCW on Tuesday on Bryson Field at Boshamer Stadium.
