Seven consecutive NCAA Sweet 16 berths!

Men's Tennis Blanks Oklahoma State, 4-0, For Sweet 16 Berth

CHAPEL HILL—Sixth-seeded North Carolina won the doubles point, then picked up singles wins from Simon Soendergaard, Benjamin Sigouin and Brian Cernoch to blank No. 19 Oklahoma State, 4-0, in the NCAA Tournament second round on a beautiful Sunday afternoon at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center.
Cernoch won the clincher, 6-4, 3-6, 6-1, over Etienne Donnet at No. 4 singles.
The Tar Heels (21-3) advanced to the NCAA Round of 16 for the seventh consecutive time. UNC has won 18 consecutive NCAA Tournament matches at home.
UNC will meet 11th-seeded Georgia in the Sweet 16 on Monday May 17 at 10 a.m.
Carolina captured the doubles point against the Cowboys, with Rinky Hijikata and Sigiouin taking the first win by beating Mathieu Scaglia and Matisse Bobichon at No. 3, 6-1. Mac Kiger and Soendergaard, ranked No. 58 in the nation, beat Henrik Korsgaard and Luke Hammond, 6-3, at No. 2 to clinch the team point.
Third-ranked William Blumberg and Cernoch saw their match against No. 27 Emile Hudd and Matej Vocel go unfinished with UNC leading, 5-4.
Soendergaard won the first singles match of the day, dispatching Hammond in straight sets, 6-2, 6-2, at No. 6. Sigouin picked up a big win at No. 3 to make the score 3-0, besting Mathieu Scaglia, 6-4, 6-4.
Shortly thereafter, Cernoch clinched the victory, sending the Tar Heels to the Sweet 16 in Orlando, Fla.
