Seven Tar Heels Earn All-South Region Honors

On the heels of a national championship season, seven members of the North Carolina field hockey team have earned All-South Region honors.

Amanda Hendry, Erin Matson, Meredith Sholder and Eva Smolenaars were named to the 16-member first team. Bryn Boylan, Cassie Sumfest and Courtnie Williamson were selected for the second team, also made up of 16 members.

All were part of the starting lineup for the Tar Heels, who finished the season 19-1, claiming NCAA and Atlantic Coast Conference titles and winning both on their home turf at Karen Shelton Stadium.

All four on the first team were named to the NCAA All-Tournament team at the conclusion of the championship, with Matson as the MVP. Hendry and Williamson also were named to the NFHCA Senior Team.

The seven Tar Heels are among 160 players honored across five regions. First-team honorees are now in the running for All-America honors, which will be announced on June 15 during the NFHCA Awards Show.
