June 16, 2021 | Men's Soccer, Academics
CHAPEL HILL–University of North Carolina men's soccer players Victor Olofsson and Tim Schels both earned All-ACC Academic Team honors for the 2020-21 season, the Atlantic Coast Conference announced on Wednesday.
Olofsson is a sophomore midfielder who hails from Vaernamo, Sweden. He is an economics major. Schels is a freshman exercise and sport science major from Erding, Germany.
All 12 ACC men's soccer programs had at least one player honored. Clemson and Duke led all schools with seven selections. Duke goalkeeper Will Pulisic was named to the All-ACC Academic Team for the fourth time in his career. Clemson's Charlie Asensio and Duke's Matthias Frick earned All-ACC Academic Team honors for the third time.
The ACC Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards were established in September 2007 to be awarded annually to the top junior or senior student-athlete in their respective sports.
Minimum academic requirements for selection to the All-ACC Academic Team are a 3.0 grade point average for the previous semester and a 3.0 cumulative average during one's academic career for undergraduate students. Athletic achievements during the most recent season are also considered in selecting the All-ACC Academic Team.
The ACC Honor Roll, which recognizes all conference student-athletes with a grade point average of 3.0 for the current academic year, will be released in July.
