June 22, 2021 | Field Hockey
Six Tar Heels have been named to the 2021-22 U.S. Field Hockey Women's National Team, announced on Tuesday by USA Field Hockey and head coach Anthony Farry. Ashley Hoffman, Erin Matson, Lauren Moyer, Madison Orobono, Cassie Sumfest and Paityn Wirth were selected for the 36-member squad following the Young Women's National Championship over the weekend in Virginia Beach.
Â
Hoffman, Matson and Moyer are among the most veteran members of the nation's top team while Orobono, Sumfest and Wirth were named to the squad for the first time. The rookie trio boosts the number of Tar Heels to play for the U.S. National Team to 37.
Â
While Hoffman and Moyer are Carolina graduates, Matson, Orobono, Sumfest and Wirth all are returning players for UNC, the three-time defending NCAA Champion.
