Five Tar Heels Named First-Team All-America By IWLCA
June 8, 2021 | Women's Lacrosse
CHAPEL HILL – The Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association has named the 48 student-athletes selected for one of its 2021 Division I All-America teams – honorees are divided into first, second, and third teams.
Tar Heels stocked the top team at each position on the field as five University of North Carolina players, most of any school in the nation, led the way on the first team.
Attackers Katie Hoeg and Jamie Ortega, midfielder Ally Mastroianni, defender Emma Trenchard and goalie Taylor Moreno all made the first team. Hoeg, Ortega and Trenchard each did so for the second time on the IWLCA squad.
All five also earned first-team All-America honors from both Inside Lacrosse and USA Lacrosse magazines.
Hoeg and Ortega are now four-time All-Americas, and with Ortega's announced return for the 2022 season she could become a five-time pick. Trenchard and Moreno now are both three-time All-Americas who also intend to return to play one final season in Carolina Blue in 2022.
This group of IWLCA All-Americas represent 21 different institutions and are the best athletes in the game this year. The teams are listed below.
