Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse Pro Season Starts Friday

CHAPEL HILL—Athletes Unlimited will launch its inaugural professional women's lacrosse season this weekend, beginning on Friday July 23 in the Metro DC area.
Eight former University of North Carolina players are slated to take part in the league: Kristen Carr, Marie McCool, Amber McKenzie, Emily Parros, Sammy Jo Tracy, Caroline Wakefield, Caylee Waters and Kayla Wood. Former Tar Heel assistant coach Katrina Dowd and former volunteer assistant Sarah Brown are scheuled to play in the league.
The all-star roster will feature 56 players, including U.S. National Team members and former college stars. The founding members will recruit fellow pros, create league rules, and retain equity in the league. Like softball and volleyball, the season is shortened to five weeks of intense game play in one city from July 23 to August 22.
FAST-PACED COMPETITION

FAST-PACED COMPETITION
Athletes Unlimited Lacrosse will play a short form, fast paced format consisting of eight-minute quarters, 10v10 gameplay and a 60-second shot clock, all housed on an 90-yard x 60-yard playing field. Play will begin with draws at the beginning of each quarter as well as after every goal.
NEW TEAMS EVERY WEEK
The top four players become captains each week and draft their teams from scratch for following week's games. In the league's scoring system, every player can lose or win points during every game. Athletes score points as individuals and as a team to win MVP titles and cash bonuses.
